SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Dancing is especially great for young people. It helps in gaining confidence, learning how to express oneself through movement, learning about other cultures and overall physical health, among many other things. At DMD we offer various programming for Elementary and Secondary Schools for these very reasons. And also because dancing is really, really fun! 

We have a number of workshops and activities we like to bring to schools but are always willing, and interested, in adapting a program to fit your class or school's needs. We choose our music carefully, making sure to use music, old and new, that is appropriate, in language and in content, for young listeners.

One-Day & Multi-Day Dance Workshops

 How it started: Intro to Hip-Hop Culture & Dance 
(History & Culture lesson, Party Groove/Hip-Hop Steps tutorial & Combo)  45min -75min

How it started Part 2: Culture & Community - Freestyle Edition
 (History & Culture lesson expanded, Hip-Hop & Breaking/Breakdance Steps tutorial - How to Freestyle & Dance Battles)  45min -75min

Intro to Hip-Hop: Steps & Dance Combo
(Warm up & Choreo/Dance Combo Tutorial) 45 min to 1hr (Can also be Intro to: Breaking, Popping, Locking, Litefeet, Salsa) 45min -75min This can be scaled up to more experienced dancers.

Creativity & Culture: Group Creation & Presentation
 Class splits up into groups to create sequences/choreography with (Hip-Hop/Breaking/Popping/Locking) dance moves they've learned over the course of their workshops. Or, if a one time workshop: Half of time is step introduction, second half is group creation and presentation. 45min - 75min / Or over 2 - 3 sessions

Curriculum-Based/Grade Specific Dance Workshops
With knowledge of the Ontario Arts Curriculum in Dance, our instructors will work on the elements of dance corresponding to grade expectations.

Choreography Creation
Hip-Hop team? Check. Samba Squad? On it. School Play? All over it. Flashmob at Graduation? Got that too. At DMD We have created original choreography for Music videos, musicals, competitive dance teams, and more. If you're looking for choreography or help in creating some, we've got you covered.
